数字に関する色々な言い方

大きい数字の言い方　その1


日常英会話に出てきた数字の言い方ですが、２億ドル　とか２，５億ドルなど金額や数値の高いものの言い方は難しく感じませんか？　デビッドにそんな時の表現法を聞いてみました。

まずは上の会話にでてきた2,5million ですが、”two point five million”でいいそうです。
又はこんな言い方でも大丈夫です。
2,500,000ドル＝"two million, five hundred thousand"dollars.


例
19,500,000 is "19.5 million"  =  "nineteen point five million"

12,400,000 is "12.4 million"  =     "twelve point four million"

100から10、000までの数え方

＜100〜900迄＞
one hundred, two hundred, three ........................nine hundred,

＜1,000〜1900迄＞
one thousand, eleven hundred, twelve hundred.......fifteen hundred...............nineteen hundred,

＜2,000〜10,000迄＞
two thousand, twenty-one hundred（2100）, twenty-two hundred....................................three thousand, thirty-one hundred.....................four thousand...............fourty-six hundred（4600）.........................five　thousand ...............................ninety nine hundred（9900）..........ten thousand（10,000）.

しかし 1000から900,000までの数をもっとシンプルに1000ごとにgrand 又はＧ（言い方は”ジー”）で表現することが出来ます。

 5,000＝5 grand or 5 G's （G's の発音は”ジース”）

10,000＝ten grand or 10 G's

59,000＝59 grand or 59 G's 

100,000＝100 grand or 100 G's  

400,000＝400 grand or 400 G's 

900、000＝900 grand or  900 G's

＜追記＞高い金額の言い方例

5億ドル　　 $500,000,000 (five hundred million dollars)

この場合、ある日の為替レートで計算して日本円にすると　　約58,200,598,139円（582億59万8139円）になりました。

最近のライブドアニュースでよく聞く時価総額7000億円をドルにしてその言い方をデビッドに聞いてみました。
（27日現在の為替レートで変換してみました）


7000億円（700,000,000,000円） →約＄6,013,683,900(6 billion, 13 million, 683 thousand, 9 hundred dollars)
　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　又は　6.013683900 Billion.（6 point 0136..........billion)

大きな数の言い方　その2



大きな数字の表現もそうですが、日本円をドルで言う時にもすぐに出てこず、困ったことが何度かあるので、おおざっぱに1ドルを120円と仮定して一番下のような表を作ってみました。
これで宝くじの話題とか、ライブドア問題を説明する時に、慌てて考えこまなくても、とりあえず、日本円の千万円台でhundred thousand ,1億円台でmillion 1000億円台でbillion と覚えてもいいと思います。
そして3億円なら0.8をかけてabout 2 million 4　hundred thousand. dollars でなんとか切り抜けることもできるのではないでしょうか？
その前に数字を英語で言う時のルールを説明します。
基本的には000（百、十、一の位）の繰り返しになり、コンマが次につくときにつける単位が変わってきます。（we go to a new category）
We think of numbers in the terms of ones, tens, and hundreds.   When going to very large numbers, they are stil thought of in the same way.

100〜999 hundreds 百台 1,000〜999,999 thousands 千〜１０万台 1,000,000〜999,999,999 millions 百万〜１億台 1,000,000,000〜999,999,999,999 billions 10億〜千億台 1,000,000,000,000〜999,999,999,999,999 trillions 1兆〜100兆台

まず基本的な１００（hunreds)台の言い方ですが、

　　倍数の言い方


twice ２倍（＝2times)　3times（３倍）　 　4times（４倍）...............

例文
I've already asked him twice.　私は彼にすでに２度訊ねている。

The post comes twice daily (= two times every day).
郵便は一日に２度来る。

daily　毎日

There are twice as many houses in this area as there used to be.
この地域にある家はかつてあった沢山の家の２倍の多さになっています。

The state is at least twice as big as England.
アメリカ合衆国はイギリスの少なくても２倍はあります。

Three times two is six.　２の３倍は６です。

Two times four is eight. 4の２倍は8です。
