Some people say that the origin of usage of the fuurin to hang under the porch was many nobels in around year 1190
(end of Heian-period) began to use the chime, which maded with bronze imported from China as buddhism,
at charm against evil. But this is unknown right or not.

Became in around year 1800 (Edo-period), the chime maded with glass, which came down the manufactuaring method from Netherland in 18 century, has spreaded in to the citizen be use at charm for against evil in only becoming hot and humidy rainy season.

They didn't know that the couses were only food poisoning ,aren't they.......

After that, around year 1850 (end of Edo-period), the chime became one of must items to make them feel cool with that cool tones, without notices, and became to call Fuurin.

Now, so many kind of Fuurin has been manufactured from among of region in Japan with various low materials and the manufacturing process or methods and designs at each. Ofcourse, the souds are all so unique.

Basicaly, Fuurin has structured with 3 of parts, it is Sotomi(bell), Zetsu (clapper) and Tanzaku(oblong card).

It can to say that the Sotomi is most important parts of wind chimes because it produced various sound by the used material, form,
size and thickness, etc.
Chiefly materials of Sotomi are Glasses, Iron or Poterrys as commonly.

Zetsu is a parts which to contact with a Sotomi.
Usualy, the material of Zetsu has same with Sotomi, but some kind of Fuurin has used distinct material.



Tanzaku is a rectangular strip of paper which hung from a Zetsu. When Tanzaku catch the breaze, Zetsu has shaked and contact to Sotomi.
Usualy, the material is a writing paper which printed a Japanes words KANJI() on the rectangle pater, but some manufactures have
particular on it.
Ancient Japanese poems or verses are writen on the Tanzaku.
